What makes you feel the sense of macabre? What is the definition?

This book features six popular films of each decade from the 2000’s back to the 1950’s. I picked these films because they are popular and portray the definitions of macabre in various ways. As a horror movie fan, I wanted to share how generations understood the feeling of macabre from films differently as time moves on.

About the Book

1. having death as a subject : comprising or including a personalized representation of death

macabre

/məˈkäbrə,məˈkäb/

“Something scary” can mean very different things depending on the person. There are numerous subgenres, each mixing suspense, thrills, and action to appeal to diverse tastes. The adrenaline rush and the ending—good or bad— brings a rush of emotions people enjoy without real-world consequences.

Why Horror?

I highlighted key moments in a sequential layout to emphasize their significance in the plot. This way, even those who haven't seen the film can understand its importance.

Design Choice #1: Sequence Photos

To make the book more relatable, the films are arranged from the latest to earliest decade. More recent films are easier to recall as they still resonate with viewers from that decade.

Design Choice #2: Film Arrangement

I selected an image and background that best represents each film featured in the book. Whether or not the reader has watched these films, they can get some understanding of the plot.

Design Choice #3: Poster Design
